Home Brewing Tip: Sanitization

Saturday, January 15, 2011

The most important tip for brewing beer is sanitization; you must be sure to sanitize everything.  This is a home brewing tip that many brewers forget, and yet it is the most important brewing tip of all. Sterilizing all the brewing equipment will prevent your beer from tasting flat, disgusting and possible health problems. Sanitizing your equipment kills bacteria, which reacts to yeast in the beer.

Sterilizing your equipment ensures that your home brew will be at its best, and will be the best possible batch, since this is your primary problem with homemade beer, turning bad. This brewing tip is for your equipment, not you’re bottling, and that is another step.

The proper step to sterilize your equipment is as follows.

  • Use a large container (NEW) that will fit all of your equipment. A large plastic garbage pail will do, just make sure it is new.

  • Thoroughly clean all equipment in the container with a sanitizing powder (follow the manufactures directions and mix with water).

  • Fill the container again, with water and sanitizing powder or solution and let it soak, with all your equipment submerged in the water.

  • After 30 minutes thoroughly rinse all your equipment with water, repeat this process two or three times, be careful to not touch the equipment with your hands, use rubber gloves, so you don’t containment your sterilized equipment.

Now all your home brewing equipment is fully sterilized and ready to make your homemade beer. You will notice the beer will have a great taste, full body, and will not be flat. Most home brewers do not follow these simple but crucial steps, and always have home beer that is not satisfying.  If you are going through the process to make homemade beer, at least give it your best shot, and follow these home brewing tips.

When you’re done with you next batch of beer, give me a shout and let me know how it tastes, would love to hear from you. If you have a homemade beer or wine recipe you would like to share, send me an email, would gladly post your recipe and give you the credit.

Just a quick note on Catholic girls, yeah they are perverted and dirty... go to the church, and look in the first pew, bet you will see a few blonds and brunettes there. Here's a tip to all single men, the women in the first pew are the dirtiest ones, and with the most sin to confess... That is why they are in the first pew.

Catholic girls are just sexy and dirty by nature, must be all the Sunday school classes...

I am so glad I grew up Catholic, at least SEX will always be dirty.  Well gotta go look for some women.
